Book Review: The End Justifies The Means

I recently dove into an audiobook that has left quite an impression on me. It's my first encounter with this author's work, and let me tell you, it's been a journey. The story orbits around Jalen, a young man whose life's kickoff wasn't exactly in the best of circumstances, and his relationship with Kevin, a relative. What unfolds is a narrative that stretches from their younger days to the complexities of adulthood.

What struck me most was the dynamic crafted by the author between these two men. They're the kind of characters you can't help but root for - intelligent, well-meaning, and determined to uplift not just themselves but their family too, despite life throwing curveball after curveball at them. It's a testament to resilience and the human spirit, and I found myself really invested in their journey.

Now, let's talk timeline. The story's timeline felt a bit like a river - sometimes flowing smoothly, other times meandering a bit unpredictably. This 'fluidity' made it challenging at times to gauge the passage of time between major events or conversations. This aspect did throw me off a bit, impacting the overall flow of the narrative.

Both Jalen and Kevin, for all intents and purposes, are the 'good guys' of the story. It's refreshing and heartwarming to see characters portrayed with such depth and positivity, especially considering the intense backdrop of their lives.

As for the audio production and narration - I'm on the fence. The narrator's voice was so soothing that my first few attempts to listen ended with me unintentionally catching some Zs! For a story brimming with intensity, I yearned for a bit more variation in tone, not just volume spikes during emotional highs. However, once I got past this and really sunk into the story, it gripped me, and I managed to finish it in just two days.

The author does a good job of conveying a powerful message: where you start in life doesn't have to dictate where you end up. This story is a beautiful blend of positive realism, woven with an intense backstory. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a dose of inspiration wrapped in a realistic narrative.
